Soup Chanjman

So, the 1st of January came again. This year, I made soup joumou, or squash soup, while in Santo Domingo. We couldn't find leaks to use, thanks to a potential conspiracy against soup by La Sirena market. In any case, the soup was good, and we distributed it to Haitians in Little Haiti.

The reason behind the soup differs on who you ask. Generally, it is considered as something to represent the culinary switch between those people who were slaves and those who were slave masters. In other words, those that used to only prepare the soup and eat the rind, now consume the soup itself. It represents change.

I started this year with the soup of change.
